Vernon Charles "Chuck" Thompson, 82, of Vernon, New Jersey passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 25, 2023. Chuck was born July 15, 1941, to Charles Vernon Thompson and Virginia Price in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Chuck joined the United States Navy and served abroad the USS Raleigh until August 31, 1964. After his discharge, he moved to New York City and married Margaret (Peggy) Elizabeth Roberts on November 19, 1964, at St. Joseph’s Church on 87th Street, NY, NY.
They moved to Central Avenue in Hawthorne, NJ and raised two children Jeanne Karen and James Patrick. Chuck worked his entire career as a salesperson of material handling supply for All State Pallet Equipment Corporation in Fairfield, NJ and later for MHE, Inc in Long Branch, NJ.
As a member of the Bergen County Umpires Association, New Jersey Football Officials Association, and North Jersey Board of Approved Basketball Officials, Inc. IAABO Board 33; Chuck spent his “non-working time” as an official for youth baseball, football and basketball. Upon his retirement, Chuck and Peggy moved to Vernon, NJ where he reconnected with his love of golf.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Peggy and two children Jeanne and Jim.
There will be no services at this time. Private cremation has been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 North 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
