Verdon E. Rustine 95 of Reeders, Pa. passed away on Sunday Jan. 9, 2002.
He was born in the small village of Reeders, in the farm house on the old hay homestead on May 30, 1926, to Pearl and Jacob Rustine. Verdon attended the Reeders one room school for 8 years then going to the Pocono Twp. High School graduating in 1944. He learned to fly and so he enlisted in the Army Air Force having served during WWII. Verdon’s father was a master carpenter and offered to teach Verdon the trade which he pursued for the rest of his life. He worked for a Stroudsburg contractor for several years, but then formed his own building and construction business, along with his older brother Carl. They ran the business for many years until their retirement. Verdon was a lifelong resident of the Reeders area and he was a member of St. Mar’s Lutheran Church in Appenzell, Pa.
He loved hunting, fishing, and collecting Indian artifacts, license plates, dog licenses, sears motor buggy’s, A 1913 Model T Ford and A 1913 Moyer. He was also proud of being a member of the Pocono & Jackson Twp. Historical Society. He spent countless hours and days, helping restore the Appenzell one room school and keeping it active. Verdon was also a past director of the West End Fair for several years.
Verdon is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Barbara J. (Butz) Rustine of Reeders, Pa. and his children: Susan Swanson of Lancaster, Pa., William Rustine and his wife Karen and Bradford Rustine all of Reeders, Pa. and 4 grandchildren: Michael Swanson, Alex Swanson, Kelly Bell and Jessica Menezes.
Private funeral services will be held on Thursday Jan. 13, 2022 at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home Inc. 23 N. 9th. St.Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360. Burial will follow in St, Mark’s Cemetery Appenzell, Pa.
