On Friday, January 1, 2021, Ruby Laura Cummings, loving wife and mother of five children, departed this life at age 93.
Ruby was born on November 12, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, to Darnley and Olive (Abbot) Campbell. She graduated Girls High School and soon after, received her accreditation as a registered nurse, later becoming tenured at Kings County Hospital. On January 21, 1951, she married Richard Ainsworth Cummings. Together, they raised five sons, Richard, Jr., Bryan, Kevin, Terrance and Gary.
She advanced in nursing to become an Admissions Administrator at Harlem Hospital, in New York City. During this time, she further pursued her education and received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Joseph's College, in 1979. She was promoted to Director of Utilization Review and retired in 1983.
Music was her passion and she was a lifelong pianist. She also was a sturdy alto vocalist and a member of Brooklyn's, Cornerstone Baptist Church Senior Choir.
Ruby was predeceased by her parents and her elder sister, Eileen Berry. She is survived by her husband, her five sons, fifteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and an endless host of nieces and nephews.
An public viewing will be held Friday, January 8, 2021 from 10-12pm, with a private service for immidiate family only at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc. 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Entombment will following in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg. Flowers or donations may be sent to 124 Murray Hill Road, 2C, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302.
