Raymond Dowd, 77, of Bushkill, Pennsylvania died February 6, 2025, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Pocono in East Stroudsburg. He was the loving husband of Marilyn Emmanuele Dowd with whom he shared 58 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, and children: Glenn Dowd and his wife, Kathleen; Jeffrey Dowd and his wife, Jennifer Hemler; Jason Dowd and his wife, Colleen; grandchildren: Ryan, Tyler, Alanna, Milo, Liam; and nieces, nephews and cousins, Brothers in law Donald Drohan, Joseph Emmanuele and his wife Sherrie.
Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, he was the son of the late Raymond and Lauretta Dowd. He was a graduate of Port Richmond High School. Raymond joined the Marines in 1966, and he and Marilyn married early '67. They lived with their newborn son in Camp LeJeune, North Carolina till late '68. They moved back to Staten Island, upon his discharge, and then in spring of 1972 to Old Bridge, NJ. There, the young couple’s other two sons were born. They resided in Old Bridge till 1988, when they moved to Bushkill, PA full time.
In his mid 20’s, Raymond used the G.I. Bill to go to college. With a full time job, three young children, a wife and a mortgage, Raymond finished his Bachelors of Science degree in Business Management in 4 years, graduating from Rutgers University. Thereby being the first person in his family to be a college graduate. Professionally, he worked twenty plus years at United Parcel Service, and then another twenty plus at New Jersey Transit. Retiring about 12 years ago from the latter.
Raymond liked to use his mechanical problem solving skills to repair and build things. Whether that be cars or doing all his own home repairs and renovations. Skills, in addition to his work ethic, that he passed on to his sons. He taught his children to be self sufficient.
He made time in a busy work life to do things for, and with his children and grandchildren. He loved his family.
Raymond enjoyed boxing, baseball and football. Particularly, the last two more in his retirement years. He was an avid Yankees fan.
A memorial service, repast and internment will take place at St. Peter's Cemetery on Staten Island, NY at a later date to be announced. Private cremation services have been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
