Michael "Mike" Joseph Pierce, 58, died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Snydersville after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis. He lived in Kentland, Indiana and Earlville, Illinois before moving to Stroud Township at age five. He was the eighth of nine children of the late Franklin D. and Rita J. (Fett) Pierce.
Mike, a 1982 Stroudsburg High School graduate, was a trim carpenter who worked on several condominiums, the historic Holland Thread Mill’s conversion to apartments and construction of the Hampton Inn in downtown Stroudsburg. He was partners with Brian Potcher for several years and also worked for Grant Homes and Richard Pierce Builder, Inc. Mike handled nearly every aspect of home construction. “One of the greatest things about Mike was that you could teach him how to do anything and he could do it better than you,” said Mike’s brother, Rich. “He was just a natural.”
He was an accomplished golfer, part of the winning team in a Pennsylvania Cancer Society state tournament that earned them a trip to the nationals in Florida. Mike resided at Pleasant Valley Manor since 2014. More recently he developed cancer and was placed in PVM hospice care early this month.
