Metella Barrett

Metella Barrett, 93, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at her home with her loving family by her side.  Born in Portland, Jamaica, she was a daughter of the late Percival and Doris (Carby) Barrett.

Metella worked all her life as a caregiver.  She truly lived her life by always helping others.  She had a big heart and displayed empathy, giving to others selflessly.  She had a resilient spirit and never gave up in difficult times right to the end with her love, generosity, and kindness.  Her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Our mom loved gardening, sewing, cooking, and giving to others.  She enjoyed spending her time with her grandchildren and listening to gospel or country music.  Mom had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.  She always put others before herself.

She is survived by her brother, Nelton; son, Dave and his fiancé, Judi; daughters Merna and Herma; six grandchildren; Ryan, Myava and her spouse, Russ; Krystal and her spouse, Michael; Tenesha and her spouse, Hakeem; Brittany; Lauryn; four great grandchildren: Ryan Jr.; Lorenzo; Hakeem Jr; Maejor and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will take place on Monday, October 9, 2023, at 1:00 pm at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 North 9th Street, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 18360. Burial will follow at Stroudsburg Cemetery.  Family will receive friends from 11:00 am to the time of service.
