Mary Ellen McDonald

Mary Ellen McDonald, 86, of East Stroudsburg went to be with her beloved husband in heaven on August 25, 2021. Born November 17, 1934 in New Haven, Connecticut, to William F. and Anna M.(Kinney) Maley. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert McDonald, Jr.  She was raised in West Haven, CT and graduated from Saint Mary's High School.  Mary Ellen and James were married on October 19, 1957 and celebrated 63 years of marriage. She was a lifelong Catholic and a member of the Church of St. John's. She was a Realtor in the Poconos and spent most of professional career in Human Resources with AT&T until her retirement. She was a church organist, an avid golfer and traveler with her husband.  Mary Ellen was a skilled seamstress, making many of her children's clothing, especially prom dresses. She resided in the East Stroudsburg area for the past 21 years and was a resident of Hemlock Farms in the 1970s.

She is survived by Ann Marie (John) Grimm of Chester, VA, Mary Elizabeth McDonald of Los Altos, CA, Kathleen Ellen Ash of Hackettstown, NJ, and James Robert McDonald III of Branchville, NJ. Grandchildren: Erin (Erik) Flora, Robert (Dana) Grimm, Michael Grimm, Emily Ash, Christine Ash, and Daniel Ash; Great Grandchildren: Connor Flora.

A viewing will be held Monday, August 30 from 4-6pm at Joseph J Pula Funeral home, Inc., 23 Ninth Street, Stroudsburg, Pa. A prayer service will be held by Father Gregory A. Reichlen during the viewing. A mass of Catholic burial will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 10am in the Church of St. John, 5171 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg, PA. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery, 901 Bryant Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association in the memory of Mary Ellen McDonald.
