Marian E. Van Delft, 98, of Chattanooga, Tennessee and formerly of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, died Thursday, May 2, 2024, at American House Assisted Living in Chattanooga. She was the loving wife of the late George J. Van Delft with whom she shared 56 years of marriage prior to his passing. Born in Queens, New York, she was the daughter of the late Frank E. and Helen Witt.
Marian spent many years on Long Island, New York before moving to East Stroudsburg in 1980 then to Chattanooga 3 years ago. She was an active member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in East Stroudsburg, PA where she was instrumental in starting the church food bank and the bereavement committee, as well as being part of RCIA, youth religious education and serving as an extraordinary minister for the church.
Marian was a Past President of the Pocono Chapter of the Telephone Pioneers and had served as a volunteer with the Red Cross Blood Drive. She also took part in the Hug-a-bear program, reading for young children in school and was an EMT with the Bushkill Ambulance Corps.
She is survived by her son, Richard Van Delft of Chattanooga, TN; brother Frank Witt of Winter Park, FL; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her son John Christopher Van Delft.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Matthew’s Parish, 78 Ridgeway Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
