Juan R. Amador

Juan R. Amador, lovingly known as John or Johnny, was born on January 12, 1938, in Gurabo, Puerto Rico. He passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, surrounded by his devoted family, at the age of 88. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Bernice C. Amador, affectionately known as Bunny, who preceded him in death on October 11, 2025. Together, they shared 69 beautiful years of marriage filled with deep love, unwavering faith, joyful laughter, and endless devotion.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather whose greatest joy in life was his family. His love was steady, unconditional, and deeply felt by everyone around him. His happiest moments were those spent creating cherished memories with the children and grandchildren who meant the world to him. He especially treasured family outings and held those precious times close to his heart. He made sure all his kids knew how to drive, taught them how to work on a car, and ensured there was no sport his kids couldn’t play, always supporting and encouraging them in every way.

He is survived by his children: Juanita Felice (Edwin), Bernice Amador, Esther Rondon, Juan Amador Jr. (Joanne), Bernard Amador, Mary Amador-Rosario (Joseph), Shawn Vasquez (Mayra), and Samantha Amador, along with Bernice’s children from her previous marriage: Bernadine Vasquez, Robert Counts (Karen), Deborah Wellington, and William Periche. John is also survived by one brother, Antonio Boria Cotto (aka Tono). He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Raphael Amador, Manuel Amador, Francisco “Paco” Amador, Carmen Amador, Gladys Amador, and Maria Socorro “Cuca” Amador.

In his younger years, John was known as a tough and resilient man, but those who knew him best saw the beautiful, tender heart he so generously shared with his family. He was always a good provider, even in his later years, faithfully making sure there was food in the house by visiting pantries until he could no longer do so. He loved to cook and could make a warm, comforting meal out of almost anything. Quiet, steadfast, and full of integrity, he led by example and lived a life rooted in hard work, loyalty, compassion, and deep faith. He will also be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor — even during his last visit to the hospital, the nurses considered him their favorite patient — along with his love of card games and the marked deck he kept close by even in his later years.

John’s life was a beautiful testament to love, generosity, and enduring faith. Though his family feels the deep pain of his absence, they find comfort and peace knowing that John and Bunny are together once more, hand in hand in the presence of the Lord. May God grant them eternal rest and bring peace and comfort to all who love and miss them.

A viewing will take place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 2:00 - 5:00 PM with a service following. Graveside services will take place on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 10:00 AM at the Buena Vista Cemetery, Route 209, Brodheadsville, PA 18322. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph J.
