Joseph Dicton Obituary

Joseph “Joe” Edward Dicton, 87, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania died peacefully on Friday, August 10, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono with his loving daughters by his side.

Joe was born in Kingston, PA to John Joseph Dicton and Sylvia (Mikoychick) Dicton. The family moved to New Jersey where Joe graduated from Roselle Park High School, attended Union County Junior College, and later earned a bachelor’s degree from Seton Hall University where he studied accounting.

Joe was a polio survivor, but rarely let that slow him down. He often recalled with great fondness his very active childhood and teenage years with his brother Jack and their cousins. After college Joe secured a position with Chatham Electronics in Livingston NJ, where he met the love of his life, Marge. After beginning their family, Joe’s job took them to north central Alabama for several years before returning to New Jersey and eventually Pennsylvania before he retired from the same company that hired him out of college.

Throughout his life, Joe enjoyed sports as both a participant and spectator. He coached little league and youth basketball. He was a dedicated Seton Hall basketball fan, watching or listening to as many games as possible every season. Joe also loved playing card and dice games with friends and family.

Joe thoroughly enjoyed retirement, especially spending time with his grandchildren Caroline and Matthew. He and Marge would often host them on weekends, taking them to attractions around the Poconos, playing games, and doing crafts. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by daughters Kathleen Byrne and her husband Michael of Randolph NJ and Carole Ann Dicton of Washington NJ; two grandchildren, Caroline and Matthew Byrne; sister-in-law Eileen Dicton and niece Kelli Renda; and sister-in-law Nancy Geiger and nephews Jared and Alex Geiger and niece Amanda Deremer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Marjorie “Marge” Rea and his brother John “Jack” Dicton.
