John R. Sherrock, 90, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania died Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Spring Village at Pocono in East Stroudsburg. He was the loving husband of Alberta “Ally” Sherrock with whom he shared two years of marriage and the widower of the late Eleanor Sherrock with whom he shared 62 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2020. Born in Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Henry and Margaret (Canary) Sherrock.
John was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church. He proudly served our country as a Colonel in the United States Army. He was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic Minister and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 11935. Prior to that, he participated in the KOC in Queens and Nassau. John worked for the IRS in lower Manhattan since the late 1960’s, retiring in 1989 and relocating to the Poconos.
During his retirement John participated in many community volunteer programs including tax filing services at the local community center. He provided tax return services to local seniors, unable to travel during the winter months, at their homes to assist with the documentation needed for filing purposes. John's practice grew to approximately 125 clients.
Along with his wife, he is survived by his son Paul Sherrock; granddaughters; Melissa Sherrock and her fiancé, Jeff Hilgreen, Jr.; Miranda St.Onge-Sherrock and her husband, Tyler; Uncle Robert Franklin, Eleanor Sherrock’s brother.
Fr. Gregory Reichlen will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Church of St. John, 5171 Milford Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18302. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 10:00 am to the time of service. Burial will take place at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc. 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
