Hilbert “Corky” L. Correll, 97, of Williamsburg, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2026. Hilbert resided in the Williamsburg, Virginia area for the past seven years. Prior to that, he called Union Dale, Pennsylvania, home. Born in Carbondale, P.A. He was the son of the late Merritt and Maude Correll.
Hilbert proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in July of 1947. He went on to spend most of his working years as a foreman and manager in the paper mill industry.
Hilbert was a man of God and of strong Methodist faith, and his faith was an important part of who he was throughout his life. He was also a man who knew how to enjoy the simple things. He loved fishing, cooking, playing rummy, watching westerns, doing puzzles and joining family and friends at Cracker Barrel weekly. And if Hilbert was going fishing, you could be sure he was prepared—his tackle box probably weighed more than he did.
He had a few rules when it came to the things he loved. Every meal needed onions, and a game of rummy was never just a game of rummy. He was fiercely competitive, and anyone who sat across from him at the table knew they had better bring their best game.
Hilbert was also a devoted fan of John Wayne and could recite the dialogue from his movies almost as well as the actors themselves. Westerns, a good game of cards, a fishing trip, a home-cooked meal, ice cream outings, and time spent doing what he enjoyed were some of the things that made him happiest.
Above all, Hilbert was a family man. He leaves behind a family spanning many generations and a lifetime of memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Hilbert was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marion Correll; his daughter, Garnet Mistkowski; and his sons, Scotty Sliker and Pat Sliker.
He is survived by his children Curt Correll and wife Beverley; Clint Correll and wife Barbara; Sharon Lutzker and her late husband Wayne; Len Correll and wife Sandy; Angie Lynch and husband Darren; Martin Sliker and wife Emma; Karla Sliker; and Jack Sliker, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great- grandchildren. Also survived by his brother Reverend Merle Correll and wife Patricia.
At 97 years old, Hilbert leaves behind not only a lifetime of memories, but generations of people who will carry those memories forward. His faith, his humor, his competitive spirit, and all the little things that made him Corky will be remembered and missed by those who loved him.
