Halsey M. Melvin 75 of Stroudsburg, Pa. passed away suddenly Tuesday Feb. 9, 2021 at his home. He was the widower of Veronica (Rusk) Melvin who died in 2016. Born in East Stroudsburg, Pa. he was the son of the late Halsey M. and Hazel (Casebeer) Melvin.
Halsey was a lifelong resident of the Stroudsburg area and was a graduate of the Stroud Union High School class of 1963. In his early years he worked for a local cabinet maker and as a painter before working at the former Ronson Lighter Corp. in Delaware Water Gap, and then at Chemzymes Inc. of Stroudsburg, Pa. for 20+ years. He retired from the Weiler Brush Co. of Cresco around 2010 after having worked there for 17 years. Halsey was a hardworking and dedicated man in all his pursuits, including maintaining a booth at The Pocono Antique Mall (Peddler’s Village) to continue The Cubbyhole antique and collectible business he and his beloved wife shared before her passing. He enjoyed reviving his golf game in the summers when he and some childhood friends could get together for a few rounds. Late in life he also enjoyed shuffleboard and a few rounds as a member of the F.O. Eagles Aerie 1106 in Stroudsburg and The CLU Social Club of Monroe County.
Even more importantly, Halsey was a dedicated and devoted husband, father, and brother. Loved by all who met him, he is survived by a daughter Christine Houck of Allentown, Pa. and a son Daniel Melvin of Stroudsburg, Pa., 3 grandchildren: Carolyn, Jason and Matthew Houck and a great grandson Leovel, a brother Edward Melvin and his fiancé Yvonne Smith, and sisters Shirley Staples, Jean Warner, and Patricia Meno, as well as many nieces and nephews.
There will be a closed casket viewing on Monday Feb. 15, 2021 from 10:00-12:00noon at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home Inc. 23 N. 9th.St.Stroudsburg, Pa. Private burial will follow in the Laurelwood Cemetery Stroudsburg, Pa.
