Gene Hergenreder Obituary

Gene A. Hergenreder, 64, of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania died Friday, June 5, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Pocono in East Stroudsburg. Born in Caro, Michigan, he was a son of the late Howard and Marie Hergenreder.

Gene worked as a carpenter, using his skills to remodel homes and work on ships throughout his career. His work took him to many places around the world, where he formed lasting friendships. While living in Florida before moving to the Poconos in 2021, he enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing, and watching NASCAR races. Gene also loved returning to Michigan to hunt with his family.

An easygoing man with a wealth of life experience, Gene was known for his stories. Whenever a topic came up, he would often begin with, “I remember when…” before sharing a memory, lesson, or adventure with anyone willing to listen.

Gene was preceded in death by his son, Adam Hergenreder.

Gene is survived by his son, Andrew Hergenreder and his wife, Amanda; his granddaughters, Airyn and Adyson Hergenreder; Elaine Minichino, with whom he shared many years and raised their two sons; his sisters, Kathy Schwab and her husband, Steve, Deann Oliver and her husband, Gary, and SueAnn Zornes and her husband, David; his brother, Steve Baker and his wife, Yvonne; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.

A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date in Gene's hometown, where family and friends will celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Gene's honor to Hunting for the Cure at huntingforthecure.org.

Private cremation has been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
