Garry Gaines Obituary

Garry Steven Gaines, 64, of Pen Argyl, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Pocono in East Stroudsburg.  He was the husband of Maggie Virginia (Valentine) Gaines.

Born in Cape May, New Jersey, he was raised in Woodbine by his parents Benjamin and Ruth (Payne) Gaines along with his brothers Benjamin, William, Ronald, Paul, Michael and sisters Brenda, Margaret, Pamela. They had fun growing up and had many stories of the adventures they had with one another. One of his main jobs was being a Park Ranger at Belleplain State Forest. He worked as an orderly, cook, carpenter, landscaping, forklift driver, factory worker and truck driver.

Garry was a spiritual man and as a result of his study of the bible, he became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1973. He was a member of the Roseto Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Garry wished that all people would “come to an accurate knowledge of God.” (1 Timothy 2:4)  He truly took these words to heart at Psalm 37:3,4 “Trust in Jehovah and do what is good; Reside in the earth, and act with faithfulness. Find exquisite delight in Jehovah. And he will grant you the desires of your heart.”

Garry was a fun-loving, generous, kind and endearing man. Gardening, bowling and cooking were among his favorite activities. He loved cooking for others. He loved all kinds of food especially seafood, chicken and anything hot and spicy. He loved dancing and laughing but could always find a way to make you laugh in the most dire situation. Despite being sick for many years, he kept a positive attitude. He loved life and when you were around him, you loved life too. Garry loved people!

Along with his wife of 47 years, he is survived by his daughters April Sheehy, Amy Davis and her husband, Deon Davis of Bethlehem and his son Garry Steven Gaines Jr. and grandchildren Alexander Gaines, Dominic Sheehy, Zaki Davis and Azaria Davis.

There will be a celebration of Gary’s life on Saturday August 13,2022 at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 2372 Yost Road, Bath, PA 18014.

Private cremation has been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc. 23 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
