Frances O’Neill Leininger passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on October 23, 1932, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Frances was the beloved wife of the late James A. Leininger and mother to sons Allison O. Leininger and Andrew L. Leininger, both predeceased. She is survived by her only daughter, Annmarie Scarfaro, and her husband, Peter Scarfaro, as well as her brother, Richard O’Neill, and his wife, Nellie O’Neill and sister in law Joan O’Neill. Frances also leaves behind nine grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Frances attended Little Flower School in Philadelphia, PA. She enjoyed volunteering at many libraries and political organizations, tracing her family’s genealogy, and was an avid reader, always with a book in hand. She possessed a wealth of knowledge that she loved sharing with her family. A passionate chess player, Frances taught the game to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be remembered for her love of family, her readiness to help at any hour, and her pragmatic and positive attitude. To her family, Nana will always be remembered for her shining blue Irish eyes and her endearing “Nanaisms” such as “Don’t sweat the small stuff,” “Don’t get your knickers in a knot,” and “Mind over matter.”
Frances’ legacy of love, wisdom, and warmth will continue to inspire all who knew her`
