Eugene "Gene" Grodzki of East Stroudsburg, PA, peacefully entered eternal rest on November 11, 2024, Veteran's Day, surrounded by his loving family. Gene was born in Brooklyn, NY, lived a Catholic life in Lower Manhattan as a young boy, and graduated from Ferris High School in Jersey City, NJ. As a US Navy Aviation Electrician First Class, he received two medals of honor for protecting his country during the US Naval blockade surrounding Cuba in October 1962, during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Afterward, he was self-employed as a Master Auto Mechanic, as well as a Master Auto Body Mechanic. Later, after many years, he retired from Gold Coast Freightways, Jersey City, and lived the remainder of his years on the mountain he loved. Gene was well known for loving not only his children, but also for deeply caring about everyone he loved. He will always be remembered, by those whose lives he touched, for his genuine and honest nature, his unrelenting work ethic, and his gift for welcoming even strangers into his home as family. He will be profoundly missed.
Gene is survived by his life companion, Kathleen Kohler; his children: Eugenia "Gina" (Jason), John, Adam, Elizabeth "Betty," Eugene "Gene" (Charisse), James "Jimmy," Desiree (Corey), Mary, and Suzanne (Eric); his grandchildren: Melissa, Coryell, Robert (Laurel), Michael, Gene, Angela, Isabelle, Emmett, Tyler, Bethany, Miles, Gage, Brooklynn, Brittany and Eric; his adopted family: Ryan (Chris), Michael, Ashley, Matthew, Carter, and Avery; and his beloved sister Barbara Bowers (Jeff). He was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Catherine Grodzki.
A celebration of life will take place in Spring 2025. Private cremation services were provided by the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home Inc. 23 N. 9th. St. Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
