Emily Purvis, 69, of Kunkletown, Pennsylvania died Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Lehigh Valley Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was a daughter of the late Joe P. and Mary Lena Johnson.
In Emily's early years, she attended the New Life Tabernacle in Brooklyn, New York where she had the opportunity to surrender her life to the Lord. Emily was divorced and had three adult children. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and became an outstanding seamstress taking that on as a hobby, rather than a career. Sewing was a passion of hers. She made women’s and men’s suits, wedding gowns, and created an assortment of outfits for individuals upon their requests. Anything that pertained to sewing she handled it in the most outstanding fashion. Emily worked as the Supervisor of Contra Costa Planning Board in California, she retired and relocated to Pennsylvania in 2017.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ushone Syanne Johnson; Candicha Andre and her husband, Anthony; Harriet Dixson and her husband, Jason; several grandchildren; great-grandchild; siblings: Ronnie Durham; Joann Hughey and her husband, Michael; James Otis Johnson and his wife, Sharon; Esther Enoch; Charles Johnson and his wife, Theresa; Barbara Hall-Johnson and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cherished friends.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 10:00 am at Reaching Out for Jesus Christian Center, 344 Stroud Mall Road, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Family will receive friends from 9:00 am to the time of service. Burial will follow at the Stroudsburg Cemetery, Dreher Avenue, Stroudsburg, PA. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph J.
