It is with sadness, affection and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Edith Amy Dahlstrom O'Neill, 100, a beloved resident of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Edith's journey came to a gentle close on March 2, 2024 surrounded by the warmth of her memories and the presence of those who cared for her deeply.
Born on January 31, 1924 into the loving family of Oscar and Agnes Nelson in Cranston, Rhode Island, Edith was a cherished sister among four daughters. Her early years were marked by a vibrant spirit and a keen intellect, culminating in her graduation from Cranston High School and to a role as a secretary within the civilian ranks of the United States Army, where she met her future husband, Charles A. O’Neill, Sr., whose memory she held close following his passing.
Edith's legacy flourishes through her devoted children: Charles A. O’Neill, of Waltham, Massachusetts; Brian O'Neill of Stamford, Connecticut; Kevin O'Neill of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and Steven O'Neill, who predeceased her. Her life was further enriched by the enduring bond with her caretaker, Brett Reish, whose companionship and care brought her immense comfort and joy. Edith's heart swelled with pride for her four grandchildren, Adam O'Neill, Brianna O'Neill-Tevlin, Shannon Irving, and Trevor O'Neill. Her five great-grandchildren are also a testament to the beautiful family she nurtured.
Edith's journey from Rhode Island took her to the charming communities of Darien and Stamford, Connecticut and to the serene landscapes of Moore's Mills, New York, and finally to her cherished homes in New Hope and East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania and Provincetown, Massachusetts. Wherever she resided, Edith's presence was a beacon of warmth, resilience, and a ready smile that touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her spirit, characterized by an unyielding strength and a boundless capacity for love, leaves behind a legacy that will be treasured and remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, we hold tight to the memories of her beautiful and long life, grateful for the time we shared and for the love she bestowed.
There will be no services at this time. Private cremation has been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
