Dennis Smith Obituary

Dennis J. Smith, 69, of Bangor, Pennsylvania died Saturday, May 25, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem.  He was the loving husband of Sheila E. (South) Smith with whom he shared over 40 years of marriage.  Born in Newton, New Jersey, he was a son of the late Robert and Leila (Morgan) Smith.

Dennis retired after working 35 years of service in the professional lawn care industry. As a young adult, he tended to cattle on a dairy farm and wished to pass on his experiences to his family. Dennis graduated from West Morris Central High School in Chester, New Jersey in 1973 and kept strong relationships with fellow graduates.  He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church and a former member of the Richmond Lions Club. In his spare time, he liked to hunt, fish, and golf. Dennis and Sheila were avid travelers. Dennis loved spending time with his grandson Connor and taking him on adventures, some of the favorites were the Zoo and Medieval Times. Time spent with family and friends was always treasured. Dennis also enjoyed watching sports at home or in the stands.Along with his wife, Dennis is survived by his daughter, Michelle Klaver and her husband, Dale; grandson Connor Klaver; sisters: Shirley Stracker, Arlene Hicks and her husband, Terry; Linda Smith; Donna Smith; nieces and nephews and many dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert L. Smith.

A memorial service will take place on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Richmond United Methodist Church, 8538 S. Delaware Drive, Bangor, PA 18013. Private cremation has been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania 18360.                                                                                             

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church, 8538 S. Delaware Drive Bangor, PA 18013. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
