Cynthia Oglesby

Cynthia Oglesby age 103 of Stroudsburg, passed away on Tuesday April 26, 2022. She was the widow of Lester F. Oglesby who died in 1992. Born in New York City, N.Y. she was the daughter of Arthur and Victoria (Roberts) Bowers. Cynthia was born and raised in Harlem, NY where she attended and graduated from Hunter College High School. She was accepted into Hunter College however decided to marry her childhood sweetheart, Lester Oglesby.

Cynthia and Lester were married in 1937 and purchased a home in the Bronx, NY where they raised 3 loving children, Vivian, Lester and Roberta. She was employed as a Supervisor for the New York City Social Security Administration until her retirement. Cynthia moved to Labar Village in Stroudsburg, PA where she resided for 25 years. She was member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Stroudsburg.

Cynthia is survived by her sister Charlena Garrett, her 3 children Vivian and her husband Alfred Bernikow of Dover, Delaware, Lester Oglesby, Jr. of Quebec, Canada and Roberta Oglesby of Stroudsburg, PA. Her 5 grandchildren: Douglas, Robin, Jason, Vanessa, Jeremy. Her 12 great-grandchildren Shaun, Dominique, Jamae, Joelle, Kyla, Jaylen, Jasmine, William, Maxim, James, Sam and Lara. And her 2 great-great grandchildren Avery Rose andCameron. Her siblings Arthur Bowers, Vincent Bowers, Dorothy Scott, Millicent Hill and grandson Stephen Church preceded her in death.

There will be a viewing Tuesday, May 3, from 12:30 – 1:30 at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc. 23 N. 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Funeral services will follow at 2:00pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 205 N. 7 th . Street Stroudsburg, PA 18360.  Interment will follow on Wednesday May 4, 2022 at 12:30pm at The Calverton National Cemetery 21 Princeton Boulevard Calverton, NY 11933.
