In Loving Memory of Constantinos “Gus” Kallinteris

Constantinos “Gus” Kallinteris was born on February 27, 1948, in the small mountain village of Betsi (Agrongri, Gortynia), Greece. He was born into humble beginnings, growing up in a one-room house with a dirt floor, alongside his 7 brothers and sisters. From an early age, Gus understood the meaning of sacrifice. At just 12 years old, he left school and moved to Athens to earn money to help support his family.

While living in Athens, Gus discovered a passion and talent for boxing. Through determination, discipline, and hard work, he rose to become a champion boxer in Greece. His boxing career came to an end when he was called to fulfill his military service, but the resilience and perseverance he developed in the ring stayed with him for the rest of his life.

At the age of 24, fate intervened when he met the love of his life, Irene (Rena) Bakalexis, during a chance encounter while walking through the streets of Athens. They were married in 1972 and shared 54 years together, building a beautiful and close-knit family and raising four children: Panagiotis (Peter) Kallinteris, Chrisoula (Soula) Kallinteris-Casagrande, Nikoleta (Nikol) Kallinteris, and Constantina (Dina) Kallinteris.

Following active military duty during the Greek-Turkish war in 1974, Gus and Irene lost everything they had. Driven by courage and hope for a better future, Gus left Greece with his family in 1975 to immigrate to Toronto, Canada. There, he worked as a plumber, determined to provide opportunities for his wife and children. Three years later, in 1978, the family settled in Pennsylvania, where Gus took another leap of faith and started his own business.

With little more than his skills, determination, and a station wagon, he founded Gus Kallinteris Plumbing & Heating. Through years of relentless hard work, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, he transformed his small operation into a thriving plumbing company specializing in new construction. His company played a major role in developing the Poconos community, bringing plumbing and heating to more than 18,000 homes. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to establish Center City Plumbing Supply, creating a successful business that served contractors and homeowners throughout the region.

Although he built successful businesses, Gus never measured wealth by money. His greatest treasure was always his family. Every sacrifice he made, every hour he worked, and every dream he pursued was for his wife and children. He believed that family came first, and he lived that belief every single day.

Beyond his home, Gus was deeply cherished by his community. Selfless, kind, generous, and humble, he touched countless lives by quietly extending a helping hand to anyone in need, never seeking recognition, but simply acting out of love. When he wasn't working or spending time with his family, he found immense joy in playing his clarinet, tending to his garden, and making his own wine.

Gus leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured in buildings, businesses, or accomplishments alone. His true legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the values he instilled, the community he served, and the countless lives he made better through his selfless love.

He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather, a respected businessman, and above all, a man who dedicated his entire life to the people he loved.

His story is one of a life truly well lived.

Gus is survived by his beloved wife, Irene (Rena); his four children, Peter, Soula (Lido Casagrande), Nikol (Chris Matos), and Dina; and his four grandchildren, Nikoleta (Nika) Casagrande, Constantinos (Costa) Casagrande, Chrisoula (Soula) Theophilos Kallinteris, and Penelope Kallinteris. Additional survivors include his sisters, Georgia (Kallinteris) Alexopoulos in Tripoli, Greece, and Kanela (Kallinteris) Condos in Kitchener, Canada, as well as many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews across the world. He was preceded in death by his parents, Panagiotis and Nikoleta Kallinteris; two infant siblings; and his brothers, Sotiris (Athens, Greece), Petros (Athens, Greece), and Christos (Georgia, USA).

A service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church, 135 Stokes Avenue, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Burial will follow at the Stroudsburg Cemetery in Stroudsburg. Family will receive friends from 10:00 am to the time of service at the church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc., 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
