Albert “Al” Suchy , 99 of Stroudsburg, Pa. passed away on Saturday Dec. 25, 2021 Christmas Day in the Brookmont Health Center Effort, Pa. He was the widower of Jeannette (Brinker) Suchy. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa. he was the son of Albert and Ann Suchy. Al was a resident of the Stroudsburg area for the past 35 years and prior to that he resided in the Long Island, N.Y. area for 10 years and his early years in the Philadelphia area.
Al graduated from Lasalle High School in Philadelphia and worked at AERO services in Philadelphia as a map maker for 35 years. He was an Army-Air Force Veteran having served from 1942-1945 where he was a top turret gunner B-17 having flown 32 missions and receiving the distinguished flying cross and 6 air medals.
Al was a very active member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Stroudsburg where he was a Eucharist Minister taking Holy Communion to hospitals, nursing homes and homes. He served the church for 26 years, before retiring in 2016. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching college and NFL football.
He is survived by 5 children: Margaret, Albert and his wife Mary Jayne, Michael and his wife Kathryn, William and his wife Carole and Patricia, 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Al was preceded in death by a son in law Robert and 2 brothers: Edward and James.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday Dec. 30, 2021 at 11:00 am from St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Fr. Michael Quinnan as celebrant. Private burial will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg, Pa.
