Gustave Ebeling Obituary

Gustave "Gus" Ebeling, 96, of Tannersville, Pennsylvania died Thursday, April 18, 2024, at St. Luke’s Hospital – Monroe in Stroudsburg.  He was the loving husband of the late Marie (Kaufmann) Ebeling with whom he shared 68 years of marriage prior to her passing in 2016.  Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Gustave and Mary (Torpey) Ebeling.

Gus was extremely proud to serve the United States Navy at the end of WWII. He was later employed as an electrician and electrical estimator throughout Manhattan for the Local 3 Union Shop. Gus lived by the creed God, faith, and family. He was a long-time member of Our Lady of Victory Church where he participated in the Knights of Columbus Council #12114.

Prior to living in the Poconos, he resided in Randolph, New Jersey for 35 years. Gus was extremely active in the community through athletics. Throughout the 1960’s, Gus was a coach for football and baseball and later, on the athletic board for youth sports in the townships of Randolph and Dover, NJ. Gus loved to travel the world with his wife, family, and dear friends. For nearly 60 years, he vacationed yearly with dear friends who he considered family. In his spare time Gus loved to golf, fish, and could be found relaxing with an ice-cold Schmidt’s.

Gus is survived by his children: Robert Ebeling (Suann); Kathleen Leddy (Daniel); Thomas Ebeling; Kevin Ebeling (Susan); seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Ebeling and Joseph Ebeling (infant).

A viewing will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at the Joseph J. Pula Funeral Home, Inc. 23 N 9th Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.  Fr. Richard Czachor will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 327 Cherry Lane Road, Tannersville, PA 18372.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to the time of service.  A burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery, 901 Bryant Street, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gus’ name to either Our Lady of Victory Church, 327 Cherry Lane Road, Tannersville, PA 18372 or The Sister’s of St. Joseph, 577Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
